Hi All,
It’s been a minute since our January event, but I finally have some very cool footage and a full audio recording from the Jan 21, 2024 Synth Patrol: Drone Ensemble Ambient Drone Concert at the Junkyard Social Club. A big thanks to all who came out, the players (listed below), and the Junkyard Social Club.
Huge thangs to Langdon who created a 1 hour video edit with two camera angles, and Eddie who did some light mixing and mastering for the board recording which was used for all the videos and for the Soundcloud recording below, and Brian who supplied who brought some of the lights to compliment the Abyss 2 water effect light that I brough.
Also, don’t forget to register for our next event on March 23rd at the bottom of the post “Generative Synth & Sequencing Techniques”. More info on the event at the bottom of this post.

A Note About the Performance and Audio Recording
We did not agree on a note, scale, tempo, share a clock, play on a timing grid, or communicate with each other during the set. Instead, we had a set of rules which allowed the piece to organically evolve through listening.
The gist of the rules were that each member of the ensemble played one note only, one at a time, to create a collective emergent ambient synth drone soundscape filled with continuous notes, tone clusters, movement, and dynamics. The choice of what to contribute to the ensemble was completely up to each member.
We did not rehearse ahead of time as each member came armed with the rules and “in the moment capable” rig (p. 50 from Dino J.A. Dean’s “Becoming Music (a book about the art of flow in music)“.
This allowed us improv a murmuration with organic movements with artists who knew their rigs, the rules, and listened.
The immersive popup experience was live mixed with a Tascam 12 through a four speaker system with a sub and feature supporting ambient lighting effects. The mix and panning were done by the performers in real-time as a result of the ensemble actively listening and adjusting.

3m20s 360 Highlight Video
This video is a 3m20s video with highlight from an hour long concert . This was shot on an Insta360 X3. I edited the shots in post using Insta360 app and assempled the footage and added some additional FX with LumaFusion on an iPad Pro using audio from Eddie’s board recording.
1h Full Concert with 2 Camera Angles with Board Recording
Langdon took the time to put together a video with the full 1 hour performance with two camera angles and the board recording.
Soundcloud Recording
If you would like to trip out to this set in audio form, check out the audio recording on Soundcloud.
